  • One of the great things about the Italian stores was the vast offering of cheeses.  That's all gone now.

  • Guttman's store front had the old-fashioned bays.  Which I love.

  • Nice place.  You could get some pretty good-quality merchandise here.  Today, it's all 99-cent stores hawking Chinese goods.  Hey, it's a global economy, kids.  Like it.

  • The sun in its going down plunges half the avenue into deep shade.  The next image shows how the shade can be relieved by Photoshop.

  • This paint store was in business in 1955 and earlier.  It's still in operation, only the "Peper Bros" is gone, as well as the "P" and "S" -- thus, today the facade just says "AINT."  The store is on Greene Avenue, just yards north of Knickerbocker Avenue.
